Some months ago I found some information about Helmet ID / Rider ID in a Cycling Magazine and thought what a great Idea, since I am a keen cyclist a diabetic club racer, track racer, cycle to work in the traffic or train alone in the mornings before work.

I purchased the Rider ID and was amazed at how simple this concept was of placing all of your Personal ID, next of kin etc on the insert then stick it to your helmet and you’re away!!

Last week I was unfortunate enough to have an accident on my commute to work hitting the road very hard, breaking my collarbone, pelvis and suffering a punctured lung.

All this from my bag shifting across my back, then when corrected this it overbalanced me and the rest is history. 

I was fully conscious thanks to a well fitted and designed helmet (which had impacted the asphalt pretty hard and fractured) it saved my head from any injury.

The Paramedics had never seen a Rider ID before and although I was conscious you really don’t fell like telling them you’re life story when you’re in such pain and the shock is setting in.   I told the Paramedic attending to me about the Rider ID on my helmet heard her comment to her partner on what a fantastic help this was to have such vital information on hand.

 Even one of the bystanders was able to phone my wife for me using the contact number from the Rider ID.I can’t tell you how much comfort this gave to me and this has just confirmed what a fantastic idea I think this is and I am going to buy these for gifts now for my cycling friends.

 Even though the Rider ID is still fixed to my helmet and is not damaged, I will be buying another to replace it and sticking to my new helmet before getting on the bike again in a couple of months.
